Ethical Trading Policy
Even a small business has an impact on the people in its supply chain and the wider environment. At Commotion, we are always aiming to improve our high standards of ethical trading. We work hard to commit to the following practices and will endeavour to:
- Encourage and promote Fair Trade practices, goods, and services that are applicable to our business.
- Help our suppliers to improve the quality control of their produce and to improve their own practices (through knowledge transfer).
- Ensure wooden products are from sustainable sources, or have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council© (FSC©)
- Look after the welfare of all staff in the supply chain.
- Work only with suppliers who refuse to use child labour and are environmentally conscientious.
- Ensure none of our business dealings overseas use bribery or support corruption.
- Avoid discrimination on any grounds in the hiring of staff.
- Make the health and safety of all our staff and suppliers a top priority.
- Respect the environment and take care to reduce and recycle our office and warehouse packaging and supplies.
- Ensure that we do not deliberately mislead or make false statements.
- Be open and direct in our communication, honour and value the abilities and contributions of others, and embrace the responsibility and accountability for our actions in this regard.
- Maintain an awareness of the needs of others and act to meet those needs wherever possible.
- Act in ways that are consistent with our commitment to social responsibility.
Environmental Policy
Our Product
- All our products are certified non-toxic, which means they do not contain phthalates, lead or cadmium.
- All solid wood sourced for our ranges is from sustainably managed forests and plantations.
- All composite wood such as plywood and MDF, is certified formaldehyde free.
- We use water based non-toxic paints and stains.
- The majority of our leaflets and guides are printed with soy ink which is biodegradable and makes paper recycling more efficient.
- All our products are tested to the latest UK, European and International standards for consumer products and toy safety.
Our Packaging
- We are working towards using recyclable packaging for all tickit® products and the elimination of single use plastics.
- Where possible, our tickit® boxes are glue-free, making them easier to fully recycle.
- Our tickit® product boxes and our warehouse cardboard packing boxes are made from at least 75% recycled material.
- Our wooden shipping pallets are reusable and when they do reach the end of their lives, can be turned into wood chip.
Our Head Office & Warehouse
At our Commotion HQ, we have installed solar panels on our warehouse roof, which means we rely less on fossil fuels for our energy. We choose to source our electricity and gas from suppliers committed to switching to a lower carbon economy, through the use of sustainable energy sources such as tidal, wave and wind power. All cardboard and paper generated is sent for recycling and we are investigating how the plastic we use can be recycled.
FSC® Certification
Commotion is proud to be FSC-certified. The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-governmental organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.
All FSC-certified wood products in our distribution range will carry a demonstrated chain of custody, proving the wood comes from responsibly managed forests and harvested to benefit communities, wildlife and the environment. This includes key lines from our distribution range of VIGA products, and we are in the process of moving our tickit® brand product lines to FSC-certified wood.
